I've Just Bought A House In Baghdad! by my dear on 2 April 2003 11:55am

I've just bought me first ever home!

I haven't actually seen it with my own eyes yet (because I bought it via the internet), but apparently my new home is a beauty. They say that it's located on the southern outskirts of town.

If any of you are in the market for a new home, then why not purchase some property in Iraq? Trust me when I say that the property prices in Baghdad are lower than anywhere on the planet.

I mean, seriously, I'm only 35 years old but I'm already considering an early retirement scheme.

Wish me luck, everyone. I'm off to Arabia!

Congratulations my dear ( that sounds funny)

Don't worry I believe you when you say that house prices in Iraq are very low, seeing as it may get destroyed and everything...
Are you moving in there or something as I can't imagine anyone else wanting to go there at the moment or in the near future at least.
Well maybe renting it out to Iraqis might work.
Please tell us as I'm actually quite interested now!
Good luck with whatever you decide to do with it...

my dear, no doubt you intended your little anecdote to be rather witty, but in light of current world events I find your humour to be just a tad insensitive. I pity the civilians and soldiers in Iraq who might not live to see tomorrow. You should thank your lucky stars that you are not one of them.

Well said Michelle. I personally find that post immature and offensive.

Not only to the people of Iraq who have to try and survive this stupid war - but to all the soldiers who don't want to be there (believe me - very few people actually join the military to go to war - most do it for good job opportunities!), not to mention all their families back home hoping that they come home alive.

This war is nothing to be made light of. Ask anyone who has lived through one.

ooops, that was a joke? I'm so gullible I believe anything. How embarrassing - ( yesterday was a nightmare - April Fools Day)
Have to say I don't think it's a good idea to write very controversial stuff here ( I may be a hypocrite though from the "why are we here" thread - I'll change!), it's just asking for trouble...

oh you're right, there are lots of american soldiers here in Germany who will have to leave for Iraq at the end of the month, they have to work about 14hrs a day and are very young and upset that they have to fight. I feel so sorry for them. Some of them have wives and kids, it's gonna be so hard..

Just wondering if my dear meant this simply as a sardonic little bit of black humour ...? Hmmmm.

I fail to see the humor in this as well.
Peace,
