Now I REALLY Need a Virtual Hug by pandab on 3 March 2007 4:04am
Ever since my father's appointment on Tuesday, I've felt better about his situation with his memory lapses and such, but I still had this little nagging sensation that the other shoe hadn't yet fallen.

Well, that shoe fell today.

Dad had a MRI this morning, and this afternoon, we learned he has a brain tumor. It is large, about the size of a baseball, and from its size and rate of growth, the doctors fear it is malignant. He is scheduled for admission to the hospital on Monday to begin treatment. That is all we know at the moment.

I've kept it together fairly well so far today, minus one crying fit this afternoon, but my own brain is whirling. I have never felt this helpless, not even when my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. At least my brother now knows all (Dad was delaying talking to him), so we can use each other for support.

I promise I won't harass you guys with the gritty details, but I may need to spout off now and then.

Thank you for all your understanding and kind words!

*hugs and comfort food*

That sounds a lot like how my mom is these days. First she hurt her shoulder and couldn't work anymore then in recent months we found out that she has damage to her lungs from smoking and cancer radiation treatments as well as Barrett's disease(severe acid reflux that causes damage to the esophagus). Late last year she had a tumor on her neck that the doctors worried might be leukemia. When it rains, it pours! That said, my thoughts are very much with you and your family. :)

My heart is with you pandab. It was brain tumours that did for my husband as one of them was on the brain stem which controls breathing among other things and so was inoperable. I hope that your father's tumour is better placed as it is then possible that surgery is an option. However, even without an op., steroids and anti-psychotic drugs kept him lucid and able to enjoy life for a further 5 months before he deteriorated. Considering that when he went missing he was given days to live, this was an achievement.

My details are on vitals if you need to talk.

Love, Linz

Never feel bad about asking for support from your freinds, Donna. I hope for all the best. You must be strong, and you will be...that is your role in this terrible thing.

SH*T I was afraid of that, per what you had described. I am so sorry, panda bear. Damnit.

It's wonderful that your family is talking to each other about it. Let the tears out. Let the spontaneous laughter come, too. He'll need laughter to feel better.

You are not harrassing us. -- Cori
