Breaking News from palinstravels by Ken Dunn on 14 June 2007 10:39pm

Sorry to hear from the team that Michael has broken his blue Chinese pencil container vase. I hope he can get a replacement and that the broken one wasn't a rare type.
Good news also on the book going to the publishers at the end of June and the (probably) 7 part series, Michael Palin's New Europe, airing in the Autumn.

Now that the office sent us a report about the broken vase, I guess he will be inudated with blue vases from fans. I wonder if it made the newspapers? He'll need a truck at his upcoming booksignings just to haul them away!! HAHAHAHAHA

I'm glad it wasn't the lovely little green vase. Wonder where the pencils are residing now?

My children and I are very disappointed that Mr. Palin did not pop-by for a visit whilst he was in Germany. Admittedly, the Rhineland-Palatinate is not a center of modern German political or social activities, but it has got some lovely castles, one of which was not destroyed at any time, let alone by the French under the reign of the Sun King, Louis XIV. The wine is also pretty good, but the educational system is a total loss - in its present state.

Perhaps a tasteful Bulgarian pencil holder would not go amiss as a consolation gift?

Release date for the New Europe Book is 13 September 2007 with a London signing on the 19th. At Waterstones in Dundee you can pre-order the book for £15 but I don't know if there is a signing there yet.

Updates by palinites on this matter would be appreciated.

Ken, apologies if this is, as Basil Fawlty says somewhere "special subject, the bleedin' obvious" - Andrea has put Orion (MPs publishers) details on another thread. They might well have a list now, or soon, of the other signing venues dates.

Also, a phone call to Dundee Waterstones around 19th September might elicit some information. I'm guessing the London signing kicks off a tour for Michael.
Sorry if this is teaching-my-grandmother-to-suck-eggs!
