Bruno has left us by Lounge Trekker on 23 June 2007 8:44pm
A new chapter in my lifelong story. Bruno has crossed the river. 3 weeks ago he acquired a limp and my heart fell. He remained lame. I went to a vet of high repute and x-rays showed osteo sarcoma...an advanced tumour in his tibia just below the knee. The prognosis for a dog diagnosed with this disease is always painful and always breif. I saw his pain and limited mobility in a different light that night. I didn't want my lovely freind to suffer pain or the painkilling medication. I arrranged for a vet to come to my home.

Cheryl and I spent the afternoon cuddling him, drinking Champagne, telling Bruno stories and singing Bruno songs. He passed in the most beautiful way, with me hugging him from behind talking gently, Bruno gazing lovingly into Cheryl's eyes, licking her face.

So this is my first day without 105 pound Bruno at my side. I will always have his soul with me. What a great guy he is!

Pete, I am so sorry. I wonder what I will be like many years down the road (hopefully) when Yerbie goes.

Thank you, Mike. He will always be with me. His wonderful character and lovingness helped me become the man I am today.

Yerbie will love you as long as you love him. His body is the vessel containing his soul today. When he is freed from that constraint, you and Yerbie will still be together.

I'm really sorry to hear that, Pete. You talked a lot about him, and he seemed like a great guy! I hope you'll see him again someday... I know you'll see him again someday.

Beautiful ending to a beautiful animal.

He's probably in heaven, playing and eating lots of delicious food =)

My condolences to you and to Cheryl. And to everyone else who loved Bruno.

So sorry to to hear this Pete. I know you were very fond of him and he was a mate to you. I've still got his photos, he seemed a gentle big lad. Just showed your post to Meg ; she started to cry, saying it was so sad. Give Cheryl my thoughts too, I know she was very fond of him also.

John + Meg.

I'm so, so sad to hear this. I loved all your pictures of Bruno. You gave him a really great life!

This is the great sadness of those of us who love large dogs - they are with us for so brief a time.

And you definitely did the right thing, making sure his life didn't end in suffering.

Much love to you and Cheryl,

Thank you Pete. That is a wonderful way to look @ it. Yerbie, just made a face @ me. He thought I had water, but it was Diet Coke. He sniffed and turned up his nose @ me. Hope Cheryl is OK. Give her my best.

I am so so sorry to hear of this, Pete; in fact I have tears in my eyes as I type. I have been dreading when that moment comes with Tosun since he was 5 weeks old.

Bruno was a beautiful dog and thanks to you and Cheryl he had a dignified, loving end.

Hugs to you both.
