Thoughts on new PM Gordon Brown? by canaveralgumby on 27 June 2007 7:32pm

How do our friends in the UK feel about him?

The English are by far the majority and a lot of them don't want a Scottish Prime Minister. We ( the Scots ) did'nt want Maggie Thatcher and the Conservatives were eventually wiped out in Scotland but they still ruled us and decimated the Scottish economy.
Gordon Brown has been a successful Chancellor, but lately it has been all spin and ' conjuring tricks 'with the economy. The mega-rich are paying little or no tax , the idle are getting money thrown at them, we are being swamped with cheap foreign labour and people like me are getting clobbered with taxes of every description.
Apart from that, he's a Raith Rovers fan !! Baaah, baaah.

I look forward to the next election when the Conservatives will win power and finally get rid of this dreadful man and his incompetent Government.

Will be strange! In charge of the treasury during the Labour Governments stay at no.10 it will be strange to here him speak on matters other than taxation, the pound, etc!! Don't ever remember him being the center of any sort or scandle, political or otherwise. The jury, I think,is still out!

Has there ever been a competent government? In any country?

Depends upon an individualís politics.

I certainly think that there have been many more competent British Governments in the past 100 years than this sorry bunch of former 1960s left wing extremists.

I have a high opinion of his competence (and an even higher one of his intellectual capacity) and I think he'll do a good job. he is intending to bring into government non-Labour people which is an interesting change. Yes, I am a Labour supoorter and I wish him well. Apparently non-committed focus-groups think OK of him (at the moment!. It's a pity he is perceived as having no charisma - not true.

Linz, I respect your opinion of course. But it saddens me to realise the low opinion people have of politicians in general. I've met many from all sides & 99% of them are hard-working and with high ideals.
