Ones Bootstraps. by tucsonmike on 28 June 2007 7:53am

This was a speech in my Toastmasters club tonight by a man talking about his negative childhood but working hard to better himself.
There is a Dale Carnegie story he told tonight about a woman forced to follow her army husband to live in the Mojave Desert near Death Valley (California). She wrote her mother and told her how miserable she was. Her mother wrote back a simple statement.
"Two men looked out through prison bars. One saw mud, the other saw stars."
Instead of bemoaning her situtation, she went out and befriended the local Native Americans, learned their language and creating their artwork. She later wrote about the desert.
You do not need major psychology
for this. It is a bit like Life of Brian. You have to figure it out for yourself.

Thanks, Mike, for the quote. My son is feeling a bit imprisoned by his situation at the moment. I'll send him this.
