The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Good news for a change. by johnnythemonkey on 4 July 2007 12:20pm
The BBC reporter and fellow Scot, Alan Johnson, has been released after being held hostage in Gaza for 114 days.
His piece to camera in a video released by the kidnappers recently was a real piece of heroism in these days when the word hero is used willy-nilly. He had an explosive belt strapped round him, yet he spoke as if he was presenting an article on the BBC.

I saw this on AOL. What a relief for his family, friends and work colleagues.

And I agree with you, he was a hero.

I couldn't sleep, and 5 minutes after I turned on the radio, they broke the news. I felt lucky to be awake at that moment. It's a relief for people who listen to the World Service regularly.

Anybody hear any of his comments after he was released? Listening to him talk, you know he's a journalist through and through.

Happy Independence Day to Alan Johnston.

It is good news and about time. Should not have happened in the first place!

Yes indeed marvellous news & a genuine hero. He's spoken of the relief to be free, how the car-ride to being let out was the scariest of his life, how Hamas took control of the area in which he was imprisoned. It must, by now, be on:

- and he said these things on release as if he was presenting a routine news report
