Pre-written address labels for sending postcards or other mail.
A complete intinerary inside EACH piece of luggage. Also your name address, home address and person to contact ,as well.
Extra prescriptions,...either filled or a paper to BE filled if needed.
More than one writing implement and note books AND journal. (Those are two different things, you know!!! )
Extra batteries for watch and cameras .
Sunglasses.
Plastic bags in case you have to "move on" before anything wet dries for packing again.
Small gifts to give children or if you know someone who is hosting you for any amount of time, a small token of appreciation for them as well.
Lens cleaner for camera. Rubber flip-flop shoes to keep feet fungus-free in hotels, motels or in the rough!!! Imperative if room is questionable...
DEET, if you are inclined to trust chemicals.
Sun screen, no matter where the destination. and mositurizer. That goes for MEN too!!!
Lip gloss/ balm/protector.
Emery board or nail file in several places of luggage or bags. Luggage, backpack, purse, . Thin and small, and handier than you think. Not just for nails. Same goes for tiny scissors.
Bandaids for blisters and small indivula packets of antibiotic ointment.
If I think of more, I'llelt you know. I'm leaving out the basics. although these are basics as far as I am concerned.

I always carry candy (the non-melting kind) to give to children who are begging. If you give them money they have to turn it over to their parents, but candy they can keep for themselves--the look of joy is great! And Marlboro cigarettes. Even though I don't smoke they can be traded for some really cool stuff.
I used to carry my Swiss Army knife everywhere but now it won't get through anyone's security. |

..always found that when travels take me to 2nd or 3rd world countries,,i always take a bundle of postcards with photos of my home town to try and share with those wonderful folks that invite me into their homes ....also a bunch of crayons and a few post-its... once when i was in very western mongolia i gave crayons to the kids in the families that fed us for a day. one little boy ( 4 or thereabouts) came out crying because he had broken his crayon. once he was convinced that he had now managed to have two crayons (twice his siblings)to draw with he was ok. then he and his siblings sang songs for me..and tried to teach me a game which used bones from goats... always try to communicate even when you cannot believe it possible.... |

MAcauley, that's right. The postcards are a great thing to take. I have taken personal photos of fanily and friends too, my car and home and workplace. People really enjoy seeing and learning about your life. Glad you mentioned that ,as I forgot!!

Patty...,
Surely, top of your list must be a 'passepartout' to carry your heavily laden bag for you?!!!!
