The Chatter Box : Blathering On
A Falkland Islanders Travel Tale. by Wheelrim on 23 July 2007 4:47pm
Whilst spending a 4 month tour of duty in the Falkland Islands I had the pleasure of spending a long weekend at a very isolated farm with a couple born and bred in the Falklands, for anyone who does not know, these delightful people have an accent which is a cross between Bristol/S.A./Aus. There are 2 main Islands, East Falklands, and West Falklands. They live W. Falklands. we talked for hours, I said to them "Have you ever been off the Falklands?", Mrs Dickson said proudly "oh yes, Oi have!" where have you been Doreen?" I said, genuinley interested in her view of the `Outside world`, "Oive been over to East Falklands" she replied. "Ah", said I, "what I meant was, have you ever been to another country?", Mr Dickson suddenly said, "Oive been to England!", "Oh yes" I said, tell me about it Gerald. "well, I got on a ship and we called in at Beunos Aries, then went on to Tilbury Docks in London" I said to him, "and what did you think of England Gerald"? straight away Gerald said "Oh, I didnt get off the boat"
Sounded funnier then I suppose, Still, worth a recant?

Well I remember the Falklands War. Mrs. Thatcher showed her mettle.
