A Scotsman on a horse! by Lia86 on 26 July 2007 12:41am

Hi! I've just booked a holiday in Scotland from July 31st to August 15th. I was wondering if any Scotsmen/women could give me some travel tips (places to visit, weather, festivals...). I'm particularly interested in the Fringe festival!

The Edinburgh Festival and the Fringe is one of the most popular events in Scotland. There are shows by many famous and upcoming artistes at locations all over the city every day. A list of events is available and you can get tickets from the Festival booking office or through many agents.
If you want to get away from the Festival for a day then the fishing villages in the East Neuk of Fife are worth a visit.

If you are visiting Scotland, I would suggest you visit Glasgow. It is one of the world's great cities and has some wonderful museums and art galleries. All free !

If in Edinburgh, I do recommend one of the City Bus Tours: you get all the highlights quite quickly (depending on the traffic!) and can then return to any places you find interesting.
They run in the central area, and are pay-as-you-get-on, I think.

If you have to choose between Glasgow and Edinburgh, choose Glasgow. It wins hands down. But I married a Glaswegian. :)

I moved to the Glasgow area by my own free will, but let me say... Glasgow bad, Edinburgh good!
Not many tourist attractions in Glesca, except for the cathedral and the Priory House (OK, and the Necropolis). There are some museums but nothing to write home about.
