Hemingway Adventure by Ellerd on 14 August 2007 2:33pm
How come it's never been released on DVD in Region 4 (Australia/New Zealand)? Or haven't I been looking hard enough?

Marketablity. It's a series I haven't had much interest in and although I have recently acquired the book I haven't read it yet. It's more of a specialised topic.

It had its moments. I still enjoyed it, even though my interest in Ernest Hemingway is essentially nil.

According to Amazon, Hemingway Adventure will be released on DVD in October in the UK. Just in time for New Europe? ;-)

I just finished watching Hemingway Adv again, and I've always wondered in what order did they film it? Certainly not in the order broadcast - in other words, it makes sense they would've filmed all the African scenes in one trip, all the US scenes on one trip. Does anyone happen to know, or know where I can find out?

I bought the DVD boxset in the UK a few years back which had the Hemingway discs, wasn't overly sure of it, but after watching it, it alongside Around The World in 80 Days is my favourite series.

It's a shame more people didn't enjoy it. I'm no great fan of Hemingway but I liked it, especially the return of the Gumby! :)

Uninspiring I'm afraid. Ernest Hemmingway may be an icon to some but to most he means nothing, the series was pretty forgettable and Michael was badly advised if he thought this would be a commercial/critical success.

Hmmm, I am by no means a Hemingway fan, but I loved these series ! There are tons of interesting stuff there I didn't know and Mr P. is in his usual entertaining self which can make even the most dull subjec tinteresting . Also, it is really fascinating to know what inspired Michael in his youth, and why. I don't care actually if it is critically or commercially successful, I just like it. Maybe I will even re-read Hemingway sometime to see if I can like it better now.

That's exactly the way i feel about it, kisch!

generally (in Scotland anyway) you can buy Hemingway in the DVD box set - I haven't seen the book or DVD for sale on its own for a wee while now.

Need to do a wee bit of back ground work on Hemingway before I start reading it.
