Happy Guy Fawkes Day to the English Persons Here.

It is hard for me to forget it since it is also Elaine's birthday. SHE is taking the day off from work, while I have to go be cheerful on the phone.
A little fireworks should be in order.

Thank you Mike! To be honest, I have usually looked forward to Nov 5th, but since Tosun came into our lives I am beginning to hate fireworks!
Of course, trouble is that people don't confine themselves to the day itself, or even to the weekend nearest - we have had fireworks going off for weeks. Poor Tosun is a wreck.
On Saturday night a family just opposite had a big firework party and must have let off hundreds of pounds worth of fireworks. Tosun was almost having a panic attack, panting and trembling like mad. Of course we reassured him, and for most of the time he sat in the shower cubicle.
And on another point, is it really 'nice' to be celebrating someone's horrific death?!
But thank you again Mike - apart from Tosun (and other animals) it IS a fun thing (and there are lots of delicious goodies too - I have to admit to having had 4 toffee apples over the past week !!)

I have heard so much about Guy Fawkes' day that I would like to celebrate it also. Unfortunately, we can't use fireworks here. Only possible day when it is legal is New Year's Eve. Please celebrate it for my half also! |

Thanks, Mike. There have been fireworks all weekend. The poor animals! I was coming back from the cinema on Saturday and a rocket fell on a car near me. I think that selling fireworks to individual members of the public should be banned and there should be just one firework display organised by the local authority or another organisation on one night only, i.e. on Nov 5th itself.
Happy Birthday to Elaine! |

It's my father's 70th birthday today. I hope I get to see mine. Sadly I think we might need a succesful 2007 version of Guy Fawkes if Great Britain is still going to be here in 40 years time. |

Well Anne we're celebrating 'the survival of democracy' 1605 style, I guess...I'm sorry for Tosun & all other animals, indeed, about now.
Sue's got it right about banning firework-sales to individuals Mike as it's so abused - oh, from me too, Happy Birthday to Elaine. Going out anywhere nice tonight? |

Do people in England remember the significance of Guy Fawkes Day, or is it just an excuse to drink beer and blow things up?
Here in the US--at least, in my part of the US--Independence Day has come down to: displaying the flag in every possible way you can think of (on clothes, banners, houses, cars, etc.), overeating grilled beef, getting drunk, and setting off illegal fireworks (the really big stuff is illegal in my state, I have to go to the fairgrounds to see the professional display). Nobody seems to remember WHY, though. And most people call it "July 4th" or even "July 4th Day"--call it "Independence Day" and they think you're talking about that movie. Sigh.... |

Thank you Anne. SHE got to stay home from work. Vlad, why do you think Britain "wont be there?" |

Some lunatic, be it scientific or political, will probably wipe us off the map, along with the rest of the planet and let's face it if we're going to apportion blame then it may as well be on the government!!! |
