  The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Silly! by Katia on 7 November 2007 7:55pm
Sorry folks, cannot help telling, call me silly if you like. The new *international blockbuster* - TV version of the famous "War and Peace" (by Leo Tolstoy) is premiered here now (and also in France, I hear). I do not find it interesting enough to sit and watch closely, but still my TV is on while I am here on the internet:) The cast is mostly Englishspeaking, and the soundtrack is dubbed in Russian. I just heard a line which, in a word-for-word back translation, sounds exactly as "'TIS BUT A SCRATCH!" - and I cracked up. Now the drama is completely lost on me, and I am giggling away like a silly sod!

LOL !!!
this is great. Though the series are total crap with cranberry on top if you know what I mean.

Pierre Bezouhoff is kinda cute. Guess why? He resembles Mr.Pither a bit. Honest!!

What production is this one? If it's BBC or Granada, there is hope to see it in Finland some day. I like historical dramas, especially BBC's. But that may be because I study history and I always try to find mistakes. Maybe I send message to "our BBC", YLE (they are going to hate me, because I am trying to get them show Michael's series on TV. So far, we've had 80days - years ago). Are there any famous actors in this War and Peace?

Elina, I saw Malcolm McDowell in the trailer which was nice:) Sorry, didn't figure out the others, but it's easy to do, I promise I'll find out for you and post here tomorrow. And of course other details (production etc). It's on TV in the room but my computer is in the kitchen, that's why I can't see the actors. The Mr.Pither-like one was in the trailer as well;)

Thanks Katia, that would be great! Malcolm McDowell sounds nice :)

Totally off the topic but I just learned that five of Michael's series are going to be on TV here! They start in February and I can't wait! If I've understood this right we won't see Sahara and Himalaya here for a while. But I trust YLE so maybe one day.

LOL! Silly, just silly! (And a bit suspect too)!

Silliness is good don't ya think?
Re: Silly! by Katia on 8 November 2007 7:44am
Not only *just* silliness, Karen! The greatest thing is what Michael Palin once called lovingly, "Sheer Unconstructive Silliness"!

I wish I could hear the original "tis but a scratch" soundtrack. A suspect indeed! Maybe you will, it's in episode 2:)

To Elina - hello, I have found the details on imdb.com;

It has been shown already in Italy, now France and Russia, then Spain, Poland and the UK.

Comments are few so far, and none of them positive. Anyway I didn't intend to watch it. Seems that Mr.McDowell is the only star there; and instead of that Mr.Pither-ish character I prefer to watch the one and only Mr.Pither:) I am quite used to the previous versions of War and Peace, American and Russian, they are really good.
