Kenya! Welcomed by the Masai by joh on 12 November 2007 5:49pm
Winning a competition can change your life

My friend Katheraine Kinney from Belfast was absolutely flabbergasted when she found our she'd won a trip to Kenya as a prize from a competition.

Its not every day that a woman from Northern Ireland wins an exotic travel adventure in Kenya.

She loves entering travel competitions and won this fantastic prize from a competition run by Global Travel; an amazing safari adventure in Kenya.

Shed always wanted to go to Africa, and winning this prize gave her the motivation to go.

She had imagined that she was going with a whole group of people − an organised tour − but when she was picked up at the airport it was just her, a drive and a chef.

We travelled together in a Land Rover, and were able to go wherever we pleased, Katharine told me. I was welcomed into the family of a Masai warrior, visited local schools and was treated as a really social guest wherever I went.

As well as seeing the wonderful scenery in Kenya, tasting the local food, she was welcomed into the lives and homes of so many warm and hospitable friends.

The holiday was a true adventure and she cant wait to win another one. In fact she enters most competitions she see especially the travel ones. She finds so many from her competition website JustComps (www.justcomps.co.uk)

Katharine tells everyone she meets that her trip to Kenya has changed her life. Its opened her up to new things and given her the confidence to voice her opinion about what she has seen and experienced.

I now feel ready to chase my dreams, Katherine says A librarian in Northern Ireland today, perhaps a tour guide in Africa tomorrow!

Well done. Is this an advert for the competition website too?

Never know where the path will take you.

I believe this path points directly to a website called justcomps...and I'm guessing its justspam. (I'm such a cynic.) I can't wait to win another great travel adventure of my own ;-)))

I was looking for Hemingway in the first 10 pages of Travel to post something about the Kilimanjaro section of Michael's book and this came out closest.

There is a great section on a couple of pages with extra photos in this website. I only looked for it as I am researching a Kilimanjaro postcard used in 1953 and sent to Italy.

I'm also looking for a copy of The Snows of Kilimanjaro and other stories by Hemingway. There are plenty of copies on the internet but I'm trying to find one locally. I'll be going to a shop in Burntisland that has rooms full of books to see if they have a copy.
