Honeymoon destinations by chrirons on 21 November 2007 1:03pm

Hi all,
this is THE weird question of them all:

We're in early stages of wedding/honeymoon plannings and are full of destination ideas for the latter.

Does anybody here (Palin-Travel fans always having good advice and good ideas) have... well...a good idea?

We'd quite like to do one week of treking and one week of beach/adventure/not-too-many-tourists.

Sounds difficult? I know.
This is why we thought about the smart and adventurous community of the Palin-Gang.

HEEEEEEEEEEELPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!! Please

Where are you coming from and how far away are you willing to travel? How much of a consideration is money?

My son is marrying in July and they are going to Sri Lanka for 4 nights, the Maldives for 7 nights and Dubai for four nights.

All the questions Geraldine asks are very valid - I suppose the time of year is important too.

If all the correct boxes are ticked, I would like to suggest Kathmandu for a week - it is a lovely city and the people are so friendly - and if you want to trek there is no better place than the foothills of Everest. You could follow it up with a week in India, either doing a sightseeing tour (the usual one is the Golden Triangle of Delhi-Agra-Jaipur (what could be more romantic than having your photo taken together on 'Diana's bench' as they call it now at the Taj Mahal?) or maybe having a chill out week in Goa?

Whatever destination you choose for your honeymoon I am sure it will be the holiday of a lifetime.

Best wishes,

Anne

Hello Hello,

of course, some details are needed (silly me).
The idea is for an end of September wedding, in Italy.

Budget... good question. What we usualy do is buy the plane ticket and seek once there (having read up on the destination beforehand).

How far? As far away from the in-laws as possible ;-)

you're ideas are quite interesting, we'll have a look into them. Thanks.

Did you want a wedding by a beach or a "ski wedding?" For a beach wedding, Capri, or somewhere in Sicily. In Sicily, you could get a giant cassata as your wedding cake.
If you want mountains, Lake Como in Northern Italy.

If you're on your honeymoon go to Cyprus and forget the beach/trekking/adventure stuff!

For honeymoon ... How about Switzerland? Mountain walking (even Sherlock Holmes did that), beautiful landscape... could be quite expensive, though.

I would suggest my home country Finland, but it's not very pleasant in autumn. (BTW, despite Mr Palin's song, we don't have pony trekking here, that is more in Iceland. At least I've never seen any.) Still, "brilliant colours in fall foliage", or as we say 'ruska', is quite spectacular in Lapland, and very romantic, too. (But I'll stop selling you this idea now!)

Wedding in Italy sounds fantastic!
