Some Finnish art for you by elina on 22 November 2007 2:38pm

While I was thinking how to pronounce Hammershoi, I remembered one of my favourite painters, Kaj Stenvall. He is Finnish and famous for ducks. I think he has become famous also abroad. Here's the official website if you wish to see his works. I simply love them. His ideas are wonderful and imaginative. He uses lot of references to popular culture, and colours: amazing!

Interesting style, kind of Art Nouveau Remastered - is there a reason for the ducks? Beside the pictures, for me the language is quite fascinating too. Can't image to learn it without a knot in my tounge ;-). People coming here say German is tricky because if the grammar, but it's nothing against Finnish.

Ducks are like human beings, doing ordinary everyday things. Driving car, making love, taking a bath...

Ah, I love German language. Finnish is tricky, I know. Pronouncing is difficult, even for us time to time. Or would you like to try: epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydelläänsäkäänköhän. The longest word in Finnish, it's nonsense but grammatically correct.

With the ducks I don't follow you entirely.People driving cars behave sometime quite stupid, wouldn't never say that of a duck. Oh, and I tried epäjär.... luckily I'm alone in my office ;-).

Oh, looks like our American friends are out of bed finally. Hi Mike, try to say epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydelläänsäkäänköhän for morning exercise.

I meant we can identify with these ducks.

If you look 1994's paintings, does the second one in the first line remind you of any other famous cardinal...? ;)

Oh no, I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition!

Here on the Wet Coast of Canada we have a real affinity for ducks. They are considered such valuable citizens of planet Earth that Canadian Duct Tape is only made from artificial ducks!

Nice site, Elina, thanks. Here on the Wet Coast of Canada we have a real affinity for ducks. Yes, they are like us people, but when it rains very hard...people still go to work and play, but the ducks stay home!

Good to see you, Holle! I tried shouting

epäjärjestelmällistyttämättömyydelläänsäkäänköhän
out the door hoping it would attract some cultured ducks, but to no avail.
