Any HDTV users? by the-g-man on 22 January 2008 7:38am

My 13 year-old picture tube is fading away fast, and I needed to buy a new TV soon so I bought a Sony LCD HDTV. I don't have it yet, but I was wondering if anyone has watched any of Palin's DVD's on high-def? I ordered an upconverting DVD player knowing that its not true high-def, but that's the best I can do. I don't believe any of Michael's programs are available on blue-ray or hd-dvd just yet.

What are your opinions.

Just wondering.

We have an ordinary Panasonic TV which is quite old and has been fixed a couple of times. The picture quality is still as good as the day it was bought. We also have a HD video tape recorder/player and the last time it was fixed our TV repair man said not to get rid of it as it was a very good machine, Our Panasonic DVD player was a bargain and picture quality from it is excellent. We use a Goodmans digital TV receiver and it 'squirts' when it is having trouble picking up a signal but reception is good on about 25 freeview channels.

Thanks for the info Ken! The Panasonic stuff is aces from what I've read. I came very close to buying a 50-inch Panasonic Plasma TV, but decided against plasma. The Sony I ordered is going back, it's only a 40-inch, which is technically smaller than the 35-inch TooB that I currently have!!!

Now I'm looking at a 52-inch LCD ;-)

As for DVD players...Philips is the best, mainly because they're so easy to hack to multi-region playback. Thanks to Philips, I've already watched New Europe three times because I bought it from Amazon.co.uk! PAL format shmormat. I'm laughing because I live in the US, and this week New Europe is being broadcast for the first time here on The Travel Channel. The Philips upconverting DVD player I bought cost $80 and has hdmi outputs. Looks good on the TooB.
