Music for my life! by elina on 4 February 2008 8:59am
In April I will see Backstreet Boys and Paul Anka (not in a same concert, though) live! (My first time with BSB, second with Paul), and in June it's Bruce Springsteen's turn! Ah, life does seem lovely time to time! :)

Well Elina, not sure I go big on your first two choices (BSB and Anka) but thoroughly endorse your attendance at Bruce the Bosses concert in June. I went to see him in London in December, and it was thoroughly marvelous, such that I have now got a ticket for the concert at the Emirates stadium in London for May 31st and totally looking forward to it again. Enjoy one of the most rocking uplifting shows in popular culture!

Elina, I'm a fan of Paul Anka. He has written some of the prettiest music and many popular songs He is a such a nice decent type person and has a great voice. I was a pre-teen when he came on the scene. You could even dance to his music, something lacking in much of today's recordings.

You know, if it weren't for The Simpsons, I'd have no idea who Paul Anka was...

You never heard laughter in the rain...? Walking hand in hand with the one you love...? (I actually love the innocence of that song.)

Wasn't it Neil Sedaka who popularized "Laughter in the Rain"?

I have tinnitis and minor hearing loss, so I don't go to many rock or pop concerts. The last concert I went to with some friends was a Christian singer I usually like (pretty rare; most Christian rockers are pretty awful), but she was so freakin' loud that even in the hall with my ears totally blocked I could hear her just fine. I think that was the one that permanently damaged my ears.

But I love live music--the energy is so different from a recording. I think most performers of any kind are better before a live audience.

Enjoy your concerts, Elina!

Paul wrote and sang "Oh Please Stay By Me, Dianna", about his babysitter. lol. Then there was also a big hit called "Put Your Head on My Shoulder". "New York New York" (...a city that never sleeps....) might be his, can't remember. Also, "My Way". Sinatra sang them but so did Paul. Correct me if I'm wrong. But he did sing a ton of hits and I loved every one of them when I was in my preteens ,early teens and later. He wrote more music than you probably know because other people sang them and made them famous.

I was introduced to Paul Anka when Lorelai named her dog after him in the Gilmore Girls! He also made a cameo appearance on the show.

It was Neil Sedaka. I'm sorry, I've always gotten them mixed-up for some reason.

Paul wrote the English lyrics for My way. He has also written She's a lady for Tom Jones. I love his music a lot, so does my family with whom I'm going to the concert.

BSB was a big part of my growing up in the 90s, it's better (in my opinion) than any other boy bands. And I haven't seen them live before, so this is my chance (though they are performing without Kevin.)

And Bruce... well, he's the Boss!

I will, Judy! Thanks!
