so ive inhaled some weird gas and lost all feeling in one of my finger tips.

You should call the manufacturer or a fridge dealer and find out what the gas was and if it's dangerous. It could damage your lungs.

I have a friend living with the permanent, nasty effects of long-term, low-level exposure to carbon monoxide. Her furnace was leaking for about a month before she figured out her flu-like symptoms were going on too long. She has permanent brain damage (severe memory impairment, loss of concentration). I'm so paranoid of gas or liquid that comes out of machinery now!

OMG, Lucy! That's sounds horrendous!

Obviously you and fridges don't get on.

Judy's right. See a GP. Fingers SHOULDN'T go numb just-like-that

The gas was probably freon, a refrigerant, and it sounds like you have fractured one of the coolant pipes that contain the freon and it has leaked out. Your fridge will not work now that the coolant system is broken and it would take a very experienced repairer to fix the hole where the gas came out.
Freon is non toxic and your finger was probably suffering from a simple case of mild frostbite.
