Brokered Conventions, How They Work. by tucsonmike on 7 February 2008 7:33pm

OK Linda, this is how they work. If neither candidate gets the number of delegates they need, the delegates pledged to vote for those candidates can vote any way they please. Then the fun begins, the arm twisting, the deals, the arguments. The candidate could end up being what we call a "Dark Horse." Someone who was not in the race, but who gets it because s/he is the only one a majority can agree on.

Sounds like a SuperCaucus! Quite an experience to take part in that, eh?

Mike, I think you mentioned there not being any for 60 years. That'd make the last in the time of Truman?
(Just thought - a bit like electing a new Pope only a lot more public...I can just see the news media frantically converging..)

And then there is those amazing number of "Super Delegates" that are elected by nobody and can totally sway the nomination.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool liberal but I am so totally indignant at the machinations of the Democratic Party incumbents that I am now registered as "Independent".

GO, OBAMA!!! Force the Democratic Party to get back to its populous roots!
