I thought I would say hello! by Wheelrim on 28 March 2008 10:46pm

I have popped in to see you guys every now and then, thought I would become `vocal` so that JTM could leave you alone and have a go at me for a while! thought also I would share this magical clip above with you and also tell Anne (Spursfan) that they are doing Turkish Language courses at Stafford College at the moment.
Just come back from Turkey today, it gets better each time and we think we may up-sticks to there this time next year. Its a great life, not always, but there are some good bits, are there not? John.

Hi Wheelie, thank you for thinking of me - I shall check out the courses! We are off for a week to Turkey on Tuesday.

Glad you had a good time, and can you tell me something - how long is your visa valid for?

The reason I ask is that it is normally 3 months, but when I was checking our passports today I noticed the one we got in February is only for a month!!

We paid £10 each as normal, and obviously it SHOULD be still valid on Tuesday.

I am wondering if they have changed it, but I can't find any info about it on any of the sites, even the consulate.

I hope we are not going to have to try and get them to understand we have a 3-month visa already! (It also says 10USD so could that be the mistake?).

Anne, to tell the truth I did not check! paid the usual tenner, the missus is currently in the Swan Hotel with the passports still in her bag (I bloody well hope)! We are going back beginning of June. I have `blagged` it before, if the guy sees you are a regular he will let you through, after all he does not want to hold up all those other ten-pound-holders! each time I go I find the language easier, do you find it easy-ish?

I find it easier while I am out there, especially when we are with our Turkish friends. It is easy to pick up bits and bobs when you are speaking with them, or listening to their conversations.

When we were travelling in central Turkey we didn't see English speakers for most of the time, (they spoke Turkish and German, and near the Russian border, Turkish and Russian) so we just had to get ourselves understood. In fact, when we were nearing Kusadasi again, I was fed up because I was going to have to speak to English people again and it seemed strange!!

I sometimes forget bits when I am back here but somehow there it all comes back.

The husband says we'll try going through the bit where you don't need to buy your visa, and if we get sent back to the end of the other queue, c'est la vie!! We won't argue, just pay up. It isn't worth a row!!

Thanks.

P.S. Could you let me know when you are able to get hold of your passports? Thanks.

P.P.S. After next week, our next trip will ALSO be at the beginning of June. We are also going to fly up to Istanbul with some (English) friends - they have never been - for 4 days.

Perhaps we'll meet up (though we live in the same town in England and never have lol!) !!

Anne, I have checked the passports and they are `As Normal`, so, I think you can blag them no worries.
Who do you book your flights with? I usually use A1 Travel (Flights).

Re: I thought I would say hello! by Spursfan on 30 March 2008 5:24pm

Aegeanflights.com, the aircompany is Onur Air. The tickets are usually from holidays4u.

http://www.aegeanflights.com/

If you book when they go on sale, they are really cheap. We have flights booked for May and also October, and have paid about £80 each. The later you book the dearer the flights are, which is fairer I think. They make their money from late-bookers, for instance a May flight is now over £200 each.

There is no onboard entertainment and no meals, thought they sell snacks. Don't find that a prob though. Also they don't sell all the prime extra legroom seats off, so you can still get them if you are first in the queue (which we have been for the last few flights).

It is still 20 kg each for luggage too, though we don't need it.

Anne
