Internet Banking

I have just come off the phone after trying to set up internet banking with our bank in Turkey, Fortis Bank.
I feel as if I have run a marathon and STILL am no nearer setting it up.
The girl on the other end was obvuously trying hard but she couldn't hear/understand me and it was a heavy slog!
She asked for my father's name to start with (as security) and when I gave her his both his christian and surnames she said 'only your father's name'!! I had to spell it 3 times and eventually we got there.
She kept saying there is a problem with the phone but I could hear HER quite clearly - perhaps it is just me.
I am not surprised it was hard work - every time we go in there when we are in Turkey it is more trouble than it is worth!!
Trouble is, Turks hold bank workers in very high esteem for some reason so they think they can do what they like. Not with us I'm afraid!! Even a Turkish friend of ours, who has his own business etc, wouldn't say boo to a goose when it comes to people who work in banks!!
Tsk!!! |

In New York City, it is transit workers who can do whatever they want. I was told never get into an argument with one, for if s/he feels threatened in any way, you go to jail.

I've been trying to set up phone banking for ages and have just given up.It never works, the passwords don't work, you're continually transferred to an operator who "fixes " the problem, but doesn't. I had internet banking but don't now as I was bombarded with emails talking about the latest security risks, how reassuring.
I GO to the bank, I PAY my bills physically at the Post Office, I use CASH!!! I am a dinosaur. And lovin' it. |

I only ever use internet banking in the UK and find it great. I haven't been IN a bank for years!
We want to be able to pay money into our account in Turkey when we are here.
I have to try the Turkish bank again today - hope I get someone who speaks English better (I know it is their country, but it is a specialised english-speaking number that you ring). |

Yay!! Done it.
Now all I have to do is to figure out how to pay money from my UK bank to my Turkish bank via the internet.
Problem? English bank asks for a 6 digit sort code - Turkish banks have a 3 digit code.
There is the facility to 'send money abroad'. Don't know if this is what I want, but the facility is only available Mon-Fri, 9 a.m. - 3.30 p.m. !!! :-x !!!
Back to the drawing board!! |

I wonder if you can send money from your bank in the UK to my bank in Canada via the internet. Let's try it!

"I am from the Gambia and my uncle the President wishes to give you trillions of Canadian dollars, as he is ill and has no-one to leave his money to. You just need to send me your bank and credit card details, house and car keys, and hat size and I will send you the cheque immediately!!!"
Or something like that?
Hahahaha. |
