Saw Orca today! by Lounge Trekker on 13 May 2008 5:54am

We were out boating and the wind came up. The rough water was pounding us, but we saw Orca on the way back. We counted six in the pod. It is a signicifant experience every time I see whales from a small boat. We were in this area: http://www.wikimapia.org/#lat=50.031122&lon=-124.8918915&z=11&l=0&m=a

I took about 30 pictures and actually have a few in which you can recognize whales! I have the best one posted on Flickr, here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/loungetrekker/

I'm pounded from an afternoon of rough water and I give up for today.

Sounds good, Pete. Dolphins are supposed to be great feel-good creatures: maybe it's the same with whales, or any large thing enjoying itself.

I have actually seen this photo now - some I can't get (like Anne's gmgrand-daughter) but yours i could - nice photo. And I know what you look like! (Always nice to visualise.)

Get back in that garden, Lounge Boater

I just took a peek at your pics, Pete. It's a very lovely area where you live and you certainly have an active life!

You lucky man, Pete! Can't get into the photos at work but will try at home.

The sight of whales always makes me feel good. We get to see them from shore, if you happen to be looking at the right time. When this happens, I drive ahead of them a few times to stop and watch them go by. That's from the shore. The Orca we saw yesterday were as close as 50 metres.

I don't have the camera for wildlife photography so, holding the camera over my head, I tried to get Lowell and his boat in the same frame as the whales. I got lucky with one.

For the record, the day after boating on rough seas feels like the day after a night drinking and fighting!

So exciting to see whales!

Yes, after a day on the swells, you still feel the motion hours after (well, I do). And it's exhausting.
