80 Days Revisited Confirmed by spursrule on 14 May 2008 10:40am

According to Michaels latest message there is a strong possibility he will be doing a 'one-off' special revisiting his original 80 days journey on its 20th anniversary.

This is brilliant news, and something i had hoped for a while. It does not sound like Michael will be doing another major tv travel series, well at least for a while, but this makes up for it and I hope they do it justice and make it longer than an hour.

Maybe he reads these boards more than we think ! Such a project has been suggested here a few times, I look forward to it.

Well all I can say is that they better show the WHOLE program in Australia without cutting it out at series 3 !!! Am still grumbling about New Europe getting AXED at episode 3....bah humbug !!!

Get the DVD then!

It also has some extras in it making it a worthwhile package!

Looking forward to this show, as I just so love this particular series, I've watched it over and over, and it's so totally inspired me in my travels. I'm travelling overland whenever possible.

But I wonder, as a suggestion, that not only could Michael re-visit some of the people and places, but also perhaps meet some travellers who have since repeated his adventure. (No, no, I'm not thinking of me, I haven't gone around the world in one trip, or been on a dhow). But I'm sure there have been people who have followed in Michaels footsteps and repeated his journey. Their stories might also be quite intriguing.

Wonder and hope if he will track down the crew of the Dhow, and indeed how many are still alive

I'm so happy to hear about an 80 days followup. This also perhaps sets a precedent that Michael might be more interested in doing these small installment-type of programs, able to be filmed in a few weeks at most versus months on the road.

Its been a few months since his last message, is this still on?

September is not far off now surely we would have heard of something by now?

Re: 80 Days Revisited Confirmed by Ken Dunn on 26 July 2008 9:27pm

I'm sure that if Mr P has had the idea then details are being worked out and the logistics of visiting some of the 80 days locations for a one off special programme will be quite complex and costly so the economists at the BBC (or Prominent Palin Productions?) will be doing very detailed planning to make the programme a viable success.
He might even do some book signings on the way!
