  The Chatter Box : Travel
Vietnam by Stuarts Point on 25 May 2008 11:10am
I saw a video a few years back where the local people caught a sort of train in the countryside. The train was like an open train, with just the base. Does anyone know where it goes or what it is called?
Also, what is must do in Vietnam? We only have 1 week

Vietnam's a pretty big place. Will you be Ho chi minh city (Saigon) centered in the south or Hanoi in the north?
The north west highlands are really spectacular... we we're back in Hanoi now, having just returned from a six day trip up there. Suggestion (this is what we did) Hanoi-Son La. Stopping at Thai,Muong ethnic minority villages enroute at Mai Chau. Son La-Dien Bien Phu (you'll need to read up on the hill tribe minorities for stopping at the village hamlets or hire a guide, we did) also The Prison at Son La and the Victory Museum Dien Bien Phu. Dien Bien Phu-PhongTho via Tam Duong visiting hill tribes H'mong,Dao,Kho Mu and Mang. Travel through beautiful terraced landscapes. Phong Tho-Sapa spent a couple days treking here probably the high point of the trip... I can supply list's of hotels that we stayed at, only two star to keep the costs down. Ronald Searle
