Late to the party? by spursrule on 16 June 2008 3:01pm

Who here started watching michaels travel programmes well after they were first aired on tv?

I must admit i would have been too young to watch 80 days and pole to pole and only after watching bits of episodes every christmas on the beeb i finally got interested in his series. This was the year the first dvd was released and i continued purchasing all of the dvds, ebaying them to buy the collectors boxset and watched everyone, except for the train journeys which i caught a glimpse of but have not watched them properly yet!

You could say i have not been a fan of michaels work for long, but ever since watching his travel programmes i have been to two of his book signings (for himalaya and new europe last year!) and i am a big fan of his work.

So who here is late to the party as it were and has only recently come across michaels travel programmes like me?

Lots of us outside of the UK came late to the party. Many of the series have still not been seen here in the U.S.

I saw them from the start, thanks to my dad. He loved trains and so did the rest of the family. After he saw the advertisement that it was going to air, we watched. Then a 2nd came along. They were current at the time. Then 80 Days aired, as well as the others, and the rest is history. They were indeed current broadcasts. I think the one series not aired in this part of the USA yet is "Himalaya", unless it was on the Travel Channel before I signed up for it. Whatever the case, I haven't see it. PBS , Nova, A&E and another company broadcasted different series. Lately, it's been the Travel Channel. Bouncing around like that doesn't make it easy to find.

"Himalaya" has been on the Travel Channel, though I didn't see it there. At first I saw all of Michael's shows through downloading them online then beginning last February one by one I started buying them on DVD from overseas and the States. As soon as I get Hemingway and Sahara I'll have all of them including the railway specials.
