S.A.R.S Virus by chris123 on 24 April 2003 3:58pm

Is the reaction of the world to this new virus justified caution or blind panic?

I think it might be a bit of both there Chris.

Of course people need to take precautions, and perhaps the frail, elderly, very young or pregnant should avoid those areas, but generally speaking if you are sensible, you should be ok. It's like any infectious disease - take the precautions and you should be fine.

Snap Kath!!! I was going to say the same thing about it being both.

Though I just watched "The Panel" (Australian current affairs/chat show) and after seeing that doctor from Hong Kong, I am a little less confident!!

Here's to finding a vaccine for a rather nasty bug!

Poll: by Nikolajf on 25 April 2003 7:10pm

Would you go to China now?

Re: Poll: by sleepydumpling on 26 April 2003 7:59am

If I could afford to - yes!! But I would take some pretty thorough precautions.

I'm lucky though, I'm mostly very healthy and am able to fight off infections well. Though if I did get even a bit sick, I'd be looking for a doctor pretty quickly to be safe!

I hope this virus is brought under control soon, as it could really tax the world's health facilities.

I was thinking, when I first heard about SARS, that it was lucky Palin wasn't traveling through one of these areas when SARS was spreading unchecked! :O

Yeah - I hope it is cleared up real soon too - it attacks the health care workers too.

Let's hope it is safe for Michael to make his next journey when he is due to start up!

The World Health Organization has officially declared a travel advisory warning for Toronto Canada, which is a bit of a pitty since I've just bought a house there.
