Delighted at the sight and the site by No1palinfan on 27 April 2003 2:58am

I, being someone who has watched every series, have every book, and just love to experience traveling with Michael Palin, am delighted he is back and also that this site exists.I just love the shows and the books, and find Michael to be just incredible, the way he simply adapts to anything, the acceptance he receives from the people he interacts with, and the insights he brings to his travels. He must have a constitution of Iron to be able to physically adapt to everything, the heat, the cold, the sand, the diet, whew. I could never do it. He is wonderful, that is all. I was lucky enough to see him speak at a Barnes and Noble here in NYC where I am from and was thrilled to get all my books autographed. The appearence he made was great. I wonder if I have missed the one here, if he did one for Sahara. I hope not. I sent him a letter and got one back. I cannot travel, for reasons of expense, health and family obligations, so Michael travels for me, and allows me to see the world through his eyes. It is a wonderful, generous sight. He shows compassion, interest and tolerance, and the people he travels with all get to love him. You can see it when it comes time for parting. I can sympathize with their feelings entirely. Anyway, this is all for now and I look forward to visting this site more often, and checking it all out, and Michael, if you see this, you are just amazing, and admirable, and thanks for it all!!!

Welcome to the Palinite's crew No1Palinfan! Always lovely to see a new face around here!

Which is your favourite series? Do you prefer to series or the books? How did you discover Michael?

Well, that's enough questions for one post - hope to see you popping up on the forum a lot soon!

Just weigh in, we're mostly a friendly bunch and if you get confused by any of our blather, just pipe up and we'll answer your questions!

Cheers
Kath

Hi Kath, Thanks for the message, and the welcome. It is most appreciated, and if I need to ask anything, I certainly will. To try and answer your questions, well, of course I knew of Michael from his being on Monty Python, and thought of him as a comic actor. But, I really didn't know him till I discovered his " Around the World in 80 Days" and became enchanted by his traveling shows, it showed a whole other side to him, a side I preferred. It is hard to say whether I like the shows or the books better. Each has their own good points. I would say whatever one is the longest I would like best, more Palin, and his witty and compassionate observations. I was just blown away by them, and it is good to have some more of him. I sure hope he does more. Whatever he is comfortable with and can sustain. Anyway, thanks for the welcome, and take care. All the best, Connie

Connie

He is apparently starting a new journey sometime next year. Through Asia I believe (can someone give more information here - I can't remember where I saw the info!) so we should see something maybe late next year.

I really enjoy the series myself, but I LOVE the books, particularly all the behind-the-scenes stuff he includes that you don't get to see in the series. Particularly the antics of Nigel Meakin, cameraman extraordinaire!

Cheers
Kath

P.S. Where are you from Connie?

Hi Kath,Thanks for the info, wow Asia, that sounds wonderful. I hope all goes well. I have to pick up my copy of Sahara. I am from New York, and have gotten a chance to meet him in person at book signings twice. I think I might have missed him this time round. I am 52, single ( with boyfriend), am an only child who is taking care of my mom, who is 86 and failing after a couple of strokes. My dad died one month after my mom had her major stroke 2 and a half years ago. Anyway, I love the books too, and love all the stuff Michael does. Thanks for replying. I am also into the Harry Potter books and SF.Take care and hope to hear back. All the best, Connie

Hello!

Lucky you Connie - I missed Michael by a whisker when he was here in Brisbane. I'll have to wait until next time - poop!!

Want to drop me a line sometime? My email is [email protected] Pop the word Palin in the subject line if you do, I get a lot of junk in that account and I wouldn't want to miss you!

Cheers
Kath
