Well it's kinda embarrassing but my nickname at high school was F*n*y!!

I hasten to add that this is a diminutive of Anne - not anything to do with my anatomy!! And remember this in the UK and not the US !

I cam remember a form-mate coming to our house one Xmas and asking my Dad 'Is F*n*y in?'!!!

Also I can remember seeing 2 form-mates across the road after I had left school and being pleased to see them but rather embarrassed when they shouted excitedly 'F*n*y!!!'!!

Actually this has just started me thinking of when our eldest grandaughter Sophie was little (hard to think she's now a Mum herself!!).

Her Dad called her Iggy for some unknown reason.

One day when she was about 3 I had picked her up for the weekend and was driving her to our place. She was in the back of the car. Suddenly in a very serious voice she said 'Mummy calls me darling, Daddy calls me Iggy' (big pause) 'You call me Sophie!'. Something about the way she had said it made me laugh so much!!

I have always called her 'Poppet' for some reason and she loves it, even now! I think she finds it a comfort.

I call My Jess "Annie" coz her middle name is Anne, always have done. Jess calls Ava "Aviator". So much for choosing a name you can't shorten! Kathryn always gets "Kat".

Oh! My parents called me Anne (middle name) because they thought no-one could shorten it!!! Amd my sister is also known by her middle name (Loretta Jean) for the same reason.

And I was named after a customer's baby in error!! My parents had a greengrocers and a customer had a baby girl, Elizabeth Anne. When Mum had me (at 39) she was delirious and when the doc said 'it's a girl' Mum thought he was talking about the customer and said 'oh. Elizabeth Anne's arrived'. The doctor rang my Dad (Dads weren't allowed then) and said 'Elizabeth Anne has been born' or words to that effect, and so he thought Mum had chosen it and so it went on!!!

Could've been worse I suppose!!

And this is weird. 99% of my boyfriends (and indeed my husband) have been called Michael. My Mum told me that if I'd been a boy they had planned to call me Michael!

;)

I have a friend named Tasha, and I often used to call her Masha Joy - I just liked it - it kind of meant much joy. My father tends to shorten names to one syllable - so he calls me Lis, our dog Dudley was Dud, our cat Tisa (sounds like Tysa) was Tis, etc. I tend to make names longer unintentionally. I had a favorite cat named Kuduzu - I would call him Kudzeus - The ZooMaster, my cat Theo - Theo-Bobeo, etc.

Ev - who called you Evan fron Heaven?
