If you could travel back in time, 'when' would you go to and why?

Rules:
1. You can choose any time, within or outside of your own lifetime.
2. You cannot travel forward in time.
3. You cannot go back to visit Jesus or any other fictional characters.
4. You cannot stay for more than one day. (Let's call it a 'transit visa')

As long as I was immune from pain and death whilst there:

1. the Court of James II as I quite fancy him. :( And I like the clothes the men wore (at least the upper classes).

2. To fly a bombing raid in a B17 (Flying Fortress - my fave plane of all time. I have seen one fly and been in one in Florida but this would be THE REAL THING!!!)

3. Can I please have a day as a Merry (Wo)man??? Please please? I love Robin Hood!!

4. And also a day or two or three as Guinevere? I won't go falling for Lancelot either. :(

I never got to really express myself to my mother. (She was physically ill from when I was 1 1/2 to 6 yrs old), and I was kind of in shock most of the time. It was very traumatic for all of us. I would visit her and give her lots of love.

Thanks ev -

It would be my priority.

If it's more for fantasy, I have to think about that...

I would have liked to meet Dostoyevsky, towards the end of his life when he was the wisest. Shakespeare too.

It would also be fun to hang out with George Eliot and Chopin...

I'm sure there's more too...

1. World War II.
2. I would want to be fighting in the American Army to retake Europe and be with Patton's Army and have him go all the way to Moscow.

Do we get special powers or abilities?

I'd like to go back to the early '80's and carry the puck past Paul Coffey a few times, leaving him behind, then rip a wrist shot past Grant Fuhr, then pick a fight with Dave Semenko and pat Wayne Gretzky on the head as I was on my way to the penalty box.

Paul Coffey might be the best skater I've seen live. He moved like he was on rails and appeared to accelerate when he had both blades on the ice. If I could outskate him, for even a moment, I would be thrilled. Of course it would have to have meaning, hence scoring the goal. Then I'd beat up on Wayne's guard at the time. Hah hah hah!
