Eartha Kitt. by tucsonmike on 26 December 2008 1:15pm

I am going to miss her. To me, she will always be Catwoman in Batman. The 1960's in America and an evil black temptress LOL! Eartha Kitt really could purr. (I worked with a woman in Boston who I used to tease telling her, she was going to grow up to be Eartha Kitt).
All kidding aside, Eartha Kitt was an extremely brave woman, who at times paid the price for her courage. She will be missed.

BBC said Harold Pinter died yesterday. Him, I wont miss.

Her version of "Santa Baby" is one of the few Christmas songs I can tolerate. Shoot.

Ohh yes did anyone put that one on the fave Xmas songs thread? That's gonna be in my head all day long now! I only really know her as Catwoman.

She sure was a character but I always found her scary rather than sexy. ' Santa Baby ' is an excellent Christmas song though and if she'd just been more considerate and died a week or two ago, it could've been a nice little earner for her estate.

I was never a fan of Eartha's. I guess she was a nice person, just not my kind of entertainer.

I was singing Santa Baby all morning @ work.

I mourn the passing of both Kitt and Pinter, Mike. Both of them had so much incredible courage in telling truth to power.

I'm afraid I've been going around with an image of Terry Jones in drag and blackface since Eartha's death was announced.

Yes,kazzzz,I put down 'Santa baby' in the (partial)list of my fave Xmas songs,on the 'Yaaarrrrggggghhhhh' thread on 15 December, but I had no idea she was about to decease. The song won for Eartha a gold award and it really has a very clever lyric, full of teasing mischievous lines, and it suited Eartha's seductive style very well. She revelled in being a 'sex-kitten' which was also very apt because,as mike says, she could really purr like a feline.
I also found her presence rather scary, but apparently in real life she was shy and insecure but she never let that show in her stage cabaret performances.
Eartha Kitt was born on a cotton plantation in South Carolina to a black mother and a white father in 1927,and had a tough upbringing in the segregated South. She was 81.She also sang: 'C'est si bon'; Let's Do It',and 'Just an Old-Fashioned Girl'.
