A controversial but compelling playwright. He will be missed.

When I saw his obituary I was glad I didn't see any of his plays as they seemed to be depressing.

No, they were amazing, not depressing, Ken. The "Pinter silences" were absolutely riveting and could say so much more than a lot of the nattering on by a lot of other playwrights. (And, I say this as one who absolutely adores and revels in marvelous intelligent verbiage like Stoppard's.)

Pinter was amazing. One of the most unforgettable theatrical experiences I've had was watching Gielgud and Richardson duel in Pinter's "No Man's Land" at the National Theatre.

Yes, one of the great playwrights, Geraldine. Awed by everything I've seen - I think the plays are best seen on stage (personal opinion here). And don't let's forget the films: THE GOo-BETWEEN and THEC FRENCH LIEUTENANT'S WOMAN - remember them?

(And I too saw 'No Mans Land' with THOSE two in 1974, I've never wanted to see it again, no actors could compare)

Nice story among the newspaper obits about his writing to Tony Blair on the occasion of THE election win in '97, pointing out a human rights outrage & asking him to deal with it, then 'Oh, by the way, when you won we were all chuffed to our b****cks'
