Winter doldrums by peripatetically on 22 January 2009 12:14am
I have the winter doldrums. I need a vacation someplace. SIGH. Has anyone been to Anguilla and if so, where did they stay? We're considering an island getaway.

Oh to be a rich Yankee retiree! :)
The Outer Hebrides are quite nice at this time of the year. ;)

Patty, come to Australia (well, to Melbourne in particular)!! Kaz and I would love to show you the most liveable city in the world! :o)

Oh yes we would, we can show you the splendid souvenir shops in Melbourne, where you can buy koala encrusted fly swatters and we can then pop along to St Kilda where you can see all MANNER of transvestites. Then it's off to Broadmeadows for a scrag fight and a cheeseburger a la Maccy D's.

Sounds like nothing could be ebetter, than OZ with you two. Wish I could and it in me to travel that far in a plane. Ya think I could paddle my way over?

JTM, I've been to the Outer Hebrides and I think not it's a good place right now! HAHAAHAHA. Whatcha take me for, a fool? And trust me, I am not rich, nor retired.

patty;I would bet you 10 dollars that nobody here has been to ANGUILLA.But--nice try,all the same!

..However,if you're rich, and retired, you could try booking at the 5-star Hotel Malliouhana, which sits prominently on the bluff overlooking Mead's Bay.
I hear the people on ANGUILLA are friendly, but then if you're rich enough to fly there and lodge there, you can probably just about afford to smile,too..:))

Why do people here think I'm rich, for crying out loud? Damn, I am not even close. And Anguilla isn't as far as it is from where you live so the airfare isn't as big. So stop calling me rich guys. It's hilarious in a way though, I must admit. lol.
Re: Winter doldrums by peripatetically on 22 January 2009 5:26pm
bIg, we're looking for something very reasonable but with a little pizzaz. Nothing 5-star.Geesh. I want something clean, with a nice view, close to the beach and a pool if possible for private dunking. lol Doesn't have to be right on the beach or have a pool, but it would be nice. Many of these nice places are way too expensive and most are for more than one person. Too big. Also, don't want to cook so a 1-BR villa is out. No way will I ever cook on holiday. I don't even cook at home!! HAHAHAHA. I'm basically lazy, I guess. ; )

You could try the Dominican Republic. It's hot and sunny there now (like July in MD), and you've got gorgeous beaches all around (Sosua and Puerto Plata in the north, Santo Domingo in the south). If you stay on the coast, you can find hotels where the staff speak English and the service is more like what you're used to. I don't know what the dollar is like against the peso, but it's usually a very decent exchange rate. (I found US $1 = 35 DR pesos online--that's hard to believe--their economy must be in even worse shape than ours!)
