A big bad booboo for NASA, and at a time when the nation turns against the Space Agency -- "Why are we throwing money away on NASA when we've got so many problems to deal with?!" If we had a nickel in a jar for every time that's spoken, well, maybe we could fund NASA!

I know. Most people don't understand it is not money thrown away, but jobs and other products come out of it. In the President's speech last night, he also made clear no one wants to pour money into the banking system however, we need to.

Yeah, I agree Mike. The space programme gave us non-stick saucepans, I think that was trillions well spent. |

Band aids (sticking plasters) now there was a good idea and money VERY well spent. Especially the Simpsons ones. |

Of COURSE it should carry on!!!! Space exploration is important.
And these spin-offs make it all worthwhile as well:-

band-aids have been around long before the space program, but I'm for the program no matter. |

Well, apart from my personal concern for my little part of the world here in central Florida, which makes me no different than anyone else in any other part of the country!, I will say this.
I do not fear for the future of human space exploration. I do not worry about humankind ceasing to explore the unknown, be that space, the bottom of the ocean, of the human genome. But that exploration has to be carried out by healthy economies, and progressive thinking societies. Always been done that way before.
That simply means that it won't be the Unites States, that's all. Our society is overwhelmingly making the decision to rail against science, send its manufacturing overseas, and dumb down education. All I can do is shrug. |

Don't forget solar cells and that shiny keep you warm stuff they wrap round marathon runners when they have finished a winter marathon. |

Cori, it was the Bush administration and its corporate supporters that denigrated science since they didn't want to be held responsible for the consequences of their money-making actions. I don't think that represents the majority American public opinion (as long as you stay away from evolution. The fact that so many Americans don't believe in evolution boggles my mind - just shows what ignorant, self-centered organized religion can do.)
However, we have a new day dawning now. Some of Obama's appointments are absolutely wonderful scientists (including a Nobel laureate.) |
