I just heard Wendy has lost her battle with cancer, very sad news. And we've been talking about Are You Being Served here recently. Strange coincidence:(

This sad news was announced on our lunchtime news bulletin. Wendy Richard was 65 years old and was probably best known here as Pauline Fowler in BBCTV's long-running soap opera EASTENDERS.
Her agent Kevin Francis said : "She was incredibly brave and kept her sense of humour right to the end."

I always remember her on the Mike Sarne record 'Come Outside' !!!

She was on Dad's Army too sometimes. I reckon that pre-dated Are You Being Served.

:(. I used to work retail and "...Served" was the truth for me. What's making me sad is that in the last month the friend of a friend and the mom of another friend were both diagnosed with cancer. I just got the word on the latter five minutes ago. What the heck is going on that so many people are getting this scourge?

Aw, yes, I knew she was terminally ill. She was just married too. So brave and sweet that she made that decision. She was a favorite of mine.

There was a quite lenghty and poignant tribute to her on the main BBC news bulletin just half an hour ago and there is a tribute programme at 8pm just after Eastenders.

I am sorry to hear this. Wendy Richards was great. I worked retail before, so I always loved Are You Being Served.

I also acknowledge so many people have had cancer. My mother's cancer was nailed. No more found. I knew SHE was getting better when she started bossing people around again.
She told me she plans to live another fifty years.
"Mom, you are 72."
"And? Your point?"
