From 'The Guardian', Monday 2 March.

Town lifts ban on Life of Brian after 30 years.

Two Monty Python stars are to attend the first screening of theur classif Life of Brian film in a town which banned it 30 years ago. Michael Palin and Terry jones will travel to Aberystwyth, west Wales, later this month for the screening.Their host will be town Mayor Sue Jones-Davis who played Brian's girlfriend, Judith Iscariot. The screening at rthe town's small arts centre is a sell-out at £25 per ticket. Jones-Davis fought for the film to be shown after learning it had never been screened in the town. Opponents of the comedy claimed it made fun of Jesus and the Python team were accused of blasphemy.

Great! I just love that Sue-Jones-Davis has done this. She is a Ceremonial rather than an Executive mayor, I think, but she certainly has the powers any other councillor has to initiate moves like this.

Blasphemy has never really gone down well in Aberystwyth...maybe it'll fare better now.

"Judith Iscariot"? ..that Judas Iscariot chappie was sure one mixed-up-kid with regard to his sexuality, wearing those short little skirts and all!! :)

No, bIG--it was STAN who was mixed up about his sexuality, not Judith. "Where ya gonna keep the fetus, in a box?" LMAO!

I have to agree with John Cleese: Life of Brian isn't blasphemous. It *is* heretical to some extent, but the church could do with a bit of satirizing and ridicule. Otherwise they get too stuffy and too powerful.

Terry posted a link about this a couple of days ago. It's bizarre that in this day and age blasphemy is still an issue. Goddammit.

You're a bit late, Mate! I've already posted a thread about this! See: The Splitters have surrended.

Apoligies, Terry! I missed this thread. Certainly, your find, & thanks for sharing it.

I have to confess, until now I never actually realised she was Judith ISCARIOT - makes the whole thing even wittier.

I knew this seemed familiar, but I thought it was the continental version. ;-)
