Andre Rieu by kazzzz on 19 April 2009 11:04am
Can anybody tell me why I have to endure all these stupid life sized cutouts of Andre every time I go into a shop? AND it's always accompanied by a stand of his DVDs, at least 56 different ones, but all with the same tunes on? How many DVDs can a person make with the same 6 musical arrangememnts?
PLUS he relies so much on his cast of thousands twirling and spinning and flame throwing etc etc etc that you can't actually HEAR HIM PLAY!!!!!

Talentless git

Oh and he only has one facial expression...smarmy.

I just thought up a new nickname for myself, Andre the giant killer. Yes, yes I like that.

I am, of course kidding, I think he's the best thing since thinly sliced bread. With marmalade. And a nice cop o tea.

And buttered crumpets.Actually,I think I prefer to hear Strauss waltzes played by Stradivarius.

He's the Liberace of the violin world. He's extraordinarily talented, but chooses to market his ego instead of his talent. It makes it hard for me to take him seriously. Oh well.

And were you making a joke, bIG?
Re: Andre Rieu by kazzzz on 20 April 2009 9:47am
Yeah I know...he IS talented really, but you're right about him marketting HIM rather than the music. I think he appeals to older women too. I musn't be old coz he doesn't appeal to me YET!! Maybe he will do in a few years time ;)

mrsthing:yep,I was making a joke: how could you tell? ;) ...trying to disguise my ignorance about Andre Rieu.

But then so was (young)Karen,or at least she was being ironic.
btw: if he is "The Liberace of the violin world",can we assume he is gay?

Clagster, I counted only 47 copies of Andre's latest DVD at my local music store. What a rip off! I bet you've been tempted to abscond with the life-sized cut out, haven't you? Shall be book Andre to serenade us during our next sojourn to the Pancake Parlour? :)

Oh, how you would love PBS pledge drives! It's Andre until you pass out sometimes.
Re: Andre Rieu by kazzzz on 22 April 2009 7:47am

bIG: Antonio Stradivari died in 1737.

By comparing Rieu to Liberace, I simply meant he is an extraordinarily talented musician who's more interested in fame and money than in music. Liberace's late concerts were more fashion shows for his (UGH!) fur capes and jewel-studded clothing, and he loved to brag about his solid gold bathroom fixtures and his fleet of automobiles. And his main fan base was women over 60. But I've heard recordings of him in his early days, and he was a remarkable pianist, just as Rieu is a remarkable violinist.
