" Stamped to death by cows." by johnnythemonkey on 22 June 2009 4:31am
That's how 'The Sun' headlined a woman's tragic death. They accompany the article with a picture of cows in case their readers don't know what cows look like. I guess they know their readers well.

What are you Brits feeding those animals, anyway???

Oh,so THAT'S what cows look like, then! I wondered what all those curious things were, ambling through the meadows,I thought they might be a breed of okapi. Thank you to THE SUN,the greatest of British newspapers, and their 4 million readers.

I am disturbed (in the same article) to hear that recently DAVID BLUNKETT was charged by a herd of cows when out walking in the Peak District in Derbyshire. Mr. Blunkett is a blind man,so I think this could be called taking unfair advantage.

Generally speaking,I suppose any herd of animals--if panicked--could go into stampede mode, whether they be cows, steers, horses, elephants, sheep, whatever. But I wouldn't like to be stamped to death by a herd of giraffes.

And don't you hate how those papers include totally unrelated but similar incidents to deepen the impact, giving the reader the impression that they are in fact related.

I think the cows pictured are more intelligent than your average 'Sun' reader or writer.

"They've got to protect their offspring and attack anything smaller even when it's on a leash."
You won't have much bother with a Giraffe,it can see everything and it's a lot taller than a politician.

Yeah it's true, cows although rather heavy bulky beasts are precocious about protecting their calves.
Apparently the lady who got trampled got between her dog and the small herd of cows, who are particularly averse to dogs.
This story was also written up in the DAILY MAIL where it said the lady's dog could have been panicked by the aggressive cows,so she should have released her dog from its leash, then it would have run off and she would not have got trampled.

Ginnyp: you've got me scared now that I could be trampled by a stampeding herd of politicians!

Omigod I just KNEW I was right to be frightened of cows!! I am always checking if there are any in any fields we walk through and if I can smell a cow I feel panicky.

I have let calves lick my hand but that's as far as it goes, sensible girl that I am as it appears !

P.S. I am sure I know where this fear came from. When I was about 8 or so I went with some friends to have a picnic in a field nearby, and took my bike. After a while we got chased by some young bullocks (I think they were) and my 'friend' kept telling me it was because my bike was red so I abandoned it!! My Dad had to go and fetch it later!! I was petrified and thought I was going to die.
