Congratulations Senator Al Franken! by canaveralgumby on 1 July 2009 6:08pm

Yay! (All I wanted to say...)

Yeah, I was listening to that on Radio 4 this morning.
The election was in November and they've only just settled the outcome after recounts and legal challenges.

Oh Radio 4 were ya? You sure you weren't reading The Sun?

There was a funny cartoon several weeks ago about this. It had Al Franken in a wheelchair with an IV in his arm and a nurse pushing the chair.
The caption read. "Mr. Franken, President Sasha Obama is ready to swear you in."

The Democrats have their sixty Senators now. But will the Senate be funnier?

One hopes so,tucsonmike. After all,how often do you hear of a professional comedian getting a Senate seat?

Re: Congratulations Senator Al Franken! by canaveralgumby on 2 July 2009 5:07pm

That's a good question! We HAVE had Sonny Bono, Fred Grandy (Gopher from the Love Boat), Fred Thompson (Law & Order), the actor who played Cooter in the original "Dukes of Hazard" (forget his name).

We've had GOVERNORS Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jesse Ventura. Governor and then President Ronald Reagan.

But we could USE more comedians. The "John Stewart for President" bumper sticker sold very well last year.

Doncha love it? A Saturday Night Live alumni and a Democrat. Heehee!

Oh gosh how could I forget, one of my favorite directors, Clint Eastwood, was the mayor of the town he lived (lives?) in, Carmel, CA.

Thinking about the governors, if you watch the first "Predator," 2 out of 3 of the main soldiers became governors. Wonder why Carl Weathers never ran!

Wasn't Charles Barkley (a basketball star here in the States for those who don't know) going to run for office somewhere?

Oh, Carmel-by-the-Sea. It's such a charming little town. We stayed there, half a block from the beach. There's a lovely mission, Clint's old restaurant and his ranch, all right within a mile of each other. Some very nice shops too.

Cooter is Ben Jones, Cori. Barkley was going to run for Governor of Alabama.
