An in depth article about the grey whales of Baja. They seek out people in their boats.

Whales are incredible creatures. I know fish is good for us, but I eat less now because humans are hogging all the fish and not leaving any for the fish-eating sea creatures.

It makes me a little sick to my stomach to think of what we've done to creatures that are probably as intelligent and self-aware as we are.

Will get to Baja eventually, since it is almost in my back yard.
I still eat fish Fran.

I know this for sure...I no longer want to eat whale meat.

I really don't know why (mainly because I have a mind that 'butterflies' I expect!) but this has made me think of the bears in Turkey.

Years and years ago you could still see them being walked from town to town where they would have to perform a dance.

Haven't actually seen them dancing, but I have often seen them walking along the road at the end of a chain and on one occasion we were on a beach when a chap brought his bear and a cub down to the sea to bathe!

Another occasion we were at our friend's hotel and a man came along with his bear, and stood outside the gate (obviously wanting the tourists to give him money). The bear stood on its back legs and leaned one paw on a tall stick. We (my husband and son) went to talk to the guy and stroked the bear - we were all anti but what can you do when they are there? I THINK we gave the man some money - yes I know you shouldn't because it encourages them to carry on, but if you didn't the bear may starve etc etc.

Thank goodness all this is outlawed now.

That's a nice story, spursfan. Your story reminds me of the episode on Ballykissangel where Donald tries to hide a retired circus bear called Susie.
