Why are people so mean? by mrsteabag on 13 July 2009 4:36pm
So the latest big story out of Chicago: one of the historical cemetaries has been declaired a crime scene. The manager and the workers had been (allegedly) digging up remains, dumping them in a distant sector, and then reselling the gravesites.
The little story: the consession stand at the park where Orion and I walk was broken into over the weekend. Not just kicking in a door, but took out a window, cut padlocks, made off with about half of their merchandise. The couple who own the stand are two of the loveliest people you could meet. I count them as friends, and the damage done to the stand was just outrageous. There's some solace in knowing they weren't physically harmed. Still, why do people have to be so mean?

Always good to remember that it's normally only a very tiny percentage of people that are so mean..

These mean people have no conscience.

In my area there have been some con men calling at the houses of elderly people saying they are from the waterboard or something and while one keeps the householder talking the other one is going through the house looking for money or anything of value to steal. How can they treat elderly people like that!

Why? Too detailed and it is an person by person reason. Having said that, if you or someone you care about is treated meanly, it is now 100% for you and do you really care about why?

Ohh suzulu a gut did a similar thing to my great aunt, he told her her roof needed re capping and repairing and gave her a quote. I contacted him and actually GOT him to admit that he was conning her. She had believed him 100%.

They've been doing cons on old people for decades. They're easy marks, and the con artists know that.

It's sad when people choose to do bad instead of good. Maybe the people who broke into the concession stand needed food and money *that* desperately?

I would be more at peace with it if it were an act of desparation. But last summer, the concession stand was broken into and pop and candy bars were stolen each time. This year at the time when they think the crime took place, one of the deputies saw a car of teenagers leaving the park. The park borders an upscale subdivision and there are no gates or fencing marking the area.

I can't believe these miscreants who go around conning elders. When did people stop having consciences?

I don't know.

A few of you know all the dramas we've had in the house we rent, the landlords have been disgraceful, we've been threatened with eviction coz they weren't paying the mortgage ( we paid rent on time tho), have refused to maintain the property and repair maintenance issues, he even pretends to live here and we have been inundated with debt collectors and people from the sheriff s office and courts looking for him, day and night, just been a general nightmare.

The latest instalment is that he's sending around tradesmen and builders and various other folk who when questioned refuse to show id or say who they are ( coz he wants to build a unit on the back of the block), and after another weekend of being inundated by strangers, rang the agent to say we would not let anyone else on the property.

Knock on the door this morning, a summons, we are being taken to court next Tuesday for non compliance. I'm a nervous wreck.

Can't take it anymore and can't understand how anyone could do this to a family with kids.
Three months till the lease expires, counting the days now.
