Not Feeling Well... by tucsonmike on 22 July 2009 1:59pm

My blood sugar was 420 this morning. I guess I am going to the doctor. Something, I could have lived without.

OMG! Maybe someone should drive you. Don't want you to blackout behind the wheel. Hope you get it under control very soon.

Hope you are ok, Mike. :(

I don't know what the system is in the US but it is obviously different to here, where diabetes is diagnosed with a reading above 7, after a fasting blood test. 420 would be WAY off the scale!!

My husband who is diabetic has to keep his blood sugar under 5 (I think) which he is managing; he doesn't have to test his blood all the time (though he has 3 insulin injections a day), but when the clinic has done long-term checks they say he is fine.

:)

I always thought you were sweet, but 420 is a little over the top! I, too, would feel better if you had someone drive you.

Yeah, 100 is high normal in the USA.

Holy crap, Mike, please do everything they tell you, okay? I know it's damned difficult. I belong to Overeaters Anon. I'm not saying that's your problem, I don't know, but I what I'm saying is, I know how hard it is to just diet or stop eating certain things when they tell you. I know. But we want to live, right? I want you to be okay.

Here's a diet hint (a nutritionist may talk to you about this): AVOID WHITE FOOD. Bleached flour, sugar, starches. The more colorful - fruits, veggies, lean meats, whole grains - the better. And I know, KFC is a lovely golden color but that's NOT what they mean!

Good luck buddy.

Hey folks, thanks. Elaine took me to the doctor. I have to test my sugar twice a day. It was 282 this afternoon. I am keeping a chart for the next week and was given another oral pill to take.

Dr. Meyers has no idea why the spike and/or what triggered it.

I have pretty much cut out the "white foods." I no longer drink alcohol, etc.

Will keep y'all posted and thank you again.

Hope they get to the bottom of it. That could have been fatal, my friend.
