South-East Asia by Peru on 31 October 2002 12:36am

Hi,

I am seeking accommdation in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.

If anyone can recommend any good places I would be grateful.

It's a new part of the world for me as I normally travel to Iceland or South America (time and money allowing).

Cheers

Steve

Depends on what sort of budget you are on really. Do you want backpackers/guest houses/hotels etc. I could give you the names of a couple of good cheap places but you'll be horrified if you are expecting 5 star luxury.

I know a reasonably priced tourist hotel (small, locally run, friendly and very Vietnamese) in Hanoi if that's any help. What standard are you after?

Sorry. My PC's been out of action.

I normally like to back pack. I tend to met more of the local people that way.

Any good guest houses would be ideal.

Thanks for help.

Assuming you'll be staying in Siem Reap at some point for Angkor try the Moon Rise Guest House where they do a fantastic coconut curry & bend over backwards to help. Sorry, dont remember the address though. If you want aircon theres a place just across the road called Lay Lay (maybe spelt differently) but it's expensive. For Bangkok try the Guest houses just off the Kao San Road. We found a little Chinese run place that was clean & had aircon (sort of) but had no window. I'm trying desperately to remember the name but can't at the moment. Just look around coz theres loads of places. Up North in Chiang Mai try the Jakawan Guest House on Witchayanon Road. This was a really nice cheap place that can organise treks into the hills.

Hope this helps.

A BELATED REPLY TO "PERU" (Sorry, I've been away) The small hotel I recommended for Hanoi is the Kim Thanh. I have been trying to check the address but have been unsuccesful. It is in one of the 'six streets' of the old quarter. Could be worth a search.
