The Chatter Box : The Series
Technical Information by mjgh201 on 28 October 2009 10:47am
I am undertaking some Visual Analysis of around the world in 80 days and was just wondering if anyone had any idea what kind of technical equimpment was used in the filming of around the world in 80 Days.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply to mjgh201's request, Flatfoot. Your mention of Kodak film reminds me of my early photographic experiences with a Canon FTQL SLR and Kodachrome 2 35mm slide film.

I also remember shooting with an 8mm GAF cine camera with the sound track on the film although when editing, the synchronisation was quite a few frames of overlap between sound and picture i.e. the sound for the last clip finished about 1 second into the next clip.

When I was in film school in the 70's, all our sync-sound work was done with those 16mm Arris and Nagras. They were state-of-the-art at the time. (I was the first female film student at my university to do hand-held Arri BL work, the first of so many glass ceiling I had to break. Common knowledge at the time claimed that 35 pounds was much, much too much for any mere female to handle.)

But the film and processing was extremely expensive for impoverished film students so we had to film much less than we wanted to. I so envy current film students their digital media.
