The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Terry Jones on BBC-R2 tonight. by bIG bLOGGER on 1 December 2009 3:24pm
TERRY JONES has an hour on radio tonight,Tuesday 1st December 2009,on BBC:Radio 2 at 10:30PM,to try to explain to his listeners the essential difference between: a)Jesus the Messiah, and b) Brian,a very naughty boy.

Now,this may prove to be a tough assignment, however I have confidence in Terry and I think he may just be able to succeed in his endeavour, with the able assistance of comedian Sanjeev Bhaskar.

In any event it should prove to be entertaining listening for Palin trekkies in the UK.

I listened to most of the programme, much of which of course would be familiar ground to those already acquainted with the making of the film LIFE OF BRIAN.

I am still a bit disgusted that JOHN CLEESE could put his mother,MURIEL CLEESE,up to stooping so low as to advertise the film by appealing to a "sympathy vote" from potential audiences by claiming:

"If the film doesn't do well,[blah, blah]John,my son,[blah, blah]may not be able to afford to keep me in this [care-]home any longer, and any move may kill me,because I am 102 years old...."[Poor Old Dear!!]
..and John is then heard begging audiences to go and see LIFE OF BRIAN in large numbers.

Was this sort of 'in-dubious-taste' publicity really necessary? Muriel was in fact only 80 years old at the time, and in the ad she is heard laughing sardonically.

It also seems evident that the actor-Pythons scarcely had confidence, when the film was released in 1979,that it would even recoup its outlays, because at the end of the film ERIC IDLE is heard shouting: "I told Bernie,[BERNARD DELFONT,one of the producers]Bernie, you won't get your money back, you won't get you money back..."
