...that's Olympia, actually.. by truestorydesu on 22 December 2009 8:32am
My apologies if this has been pointed out before, but as a strange Pacific North-westerner, I just have to mention it.

In the book Full Circle (at least, on this site, where I've been reading it) Michael wrote:

"Seattle, capital of Washington State and the third largest of the America's great Pacific coast ports, is 680 miles north of San Francisco, and within 130 miles of the Canadian border..."

Almost all of this is correct. Almost in that the actual capital of Washington (the state) is Olympia. Is this just a mistake on the online version of the book or is it in print as well? I certainly hope his editors/fact checkers/whathaveyou didn't miss this. Granted, people sometimes get mixed up with states that have capitals that are not any of their prominent/biggest cities (There's Olympia, Salem, Albany...). Does this mean that Michael Palin is a real human being capable of making factual mistakes (an idea that does not conform with my MP hero-worshiping tendencies)?

Why do you call yourself 'strange' ?

Also, if I wasn't so lazy and very sick right now, I'd go get my copy of Full Circle and check the text.

Come back again and join in the fun here, True. Tell us more about yourself in the 'Welcome and Introductions' thread. We love new blood here! lol
