The Chatter Box : Blathering On
Typos by suzulu on 19 February 2010 6:35pm
A lovely typo in one of the documents I was proofreading at work today (concerning chemical pollution at sea):

"In order to avoid losing their rights to compensation, all claimants must lodge their CLAMS in the appropriate court before the expiry of the three-year time-bar period.

And another one a few years ago: instead of typing "ship scrapping" someone typed "ships crapping". No-one noticed the error and it was put on the website.

As written in a seriously long legal office letter:
"...other attorneys in the office may be assisting as on behalf of [Client X...]..."
Problem was there was a typing error and it was typed as:
"...other attorneys in the office may be assfisting as on behalf of..."

When I taught Middle School English I once had to do a comprehension test with the students on Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. In case you are not familiar, Sir Gawain is a knight in King Arthur's court, he is very confident and breaks the Knightly code of honor by being too cocky! On New Year's Eve as King Arthur and his men are feasting, a huge green Knight comes into the hall and declares that any man brave enough to deal him a blow and survive must be dealt the same blow one year from now by the green knight himself at his own castle. Gawain, being cocky, chops off the knight's head and thinks, "I win!" The green knight picks his head up off the floor and says, "See you 12 months from now."

The comprehension test had this question.....

What was the deal between Sir Gawain and the Green Knight?

The answer from one of the girls was.....

They would blow each other on New Year's Eve.

And then there is the common typo typists make: "doe snot" instead of "does not". Spell check doesn't find this because "snot" is in the dictionary. Hahahahahahahaha (maniacal laughter)
