Around the world in 80 days (the whole series) by sadd3j on 26 May 2003 10:52am

I remember watching this series years ago while growing up as a boy in HK.

Sigh.. what I really want is a super boxset of the whole TV series.. seeing as the DVD is only gonna be ~500mins.. I would really love for like the WHOLE thing.. which would be huge.. but it'd be just a dream come true.. regardless I'm still gonna jump on the DVD :)

What do you mean, only 500 minutes? The 80 days series consists of 10 x 50 minutes episodes. The videos contain an abridged version lasting 335 minutes. Do you want all the footage they recorded?!?! That would be some boxset!!

Hopefully there'll be some extras as well, behind the scenes stuff, diaries etc. The long lead time before these past series are being released on DVD indicates that some poor (or should I say lucky) person has to go rumaging through the BBC film archives. I'm sure Michael has to give his input as well and he's a very busy man.

Can't wait for the DVDs!

Oh.. do you mean the actual series that aired on Tv was only 10x50mins? Does that mean the DVD will have all of it? It's been a *long* time and for some reason I remember it being a very long series..

I'm dying to get a copy of the DVD for myself, and one for my brother.. he'll go through the roof when I get him one :)

The original series I saw in the U.S. was 7 x 50 mins. Maybe they showed more on the BBC, but here in the U.S. we only got 350 minutes...

Every repeat of 80 Days that I remember being shown on the BBC has only been 7 x 50 minute episodes. The whole series seems to fit together seamlessly without any gaps, and the box set of videos doesn't mention that it is an abridged version.

I am a bit mystified by this claim that there were originally 10 episodes. Could they really cut out a whole 2 1/2 hours without anybody noticing? Can anybody confirm that the original transmission (which I didn't see) was actually 10 episodes? I know Full Circle was 10 episodes.

In his introduction to 80 days elsewhere on this website, Palin himself states that it was seven fifty-minute episodes. I would consider his statement a knowledgable source. Agreed?

Peace,

im confused.
i have the video of Around the world..., and you say the televised verion ran in total 500 mins. So where has 125 mins gone? ok cutting out credits etc would take about 10-15 mins, but not 135 mins. i never watched the series on tv, only on video, so have i missed out?

Since that post I think we've established that the original series did only consist of only 7 x 50-minute episodes.

The original poster must have been mistaken, or thinking of something else.
