US Supreme Court Nominee by bIG bLOGGER on 12 May 2010 4:38pm
Well should President Barack Obama confirm as the newest member of the US Supreme Court a 50 year-old Jewish gay Liberal who is currently Dean of Harvard Law School and US Solicitor-General,even though she has under her belt no actual previous judicial experience working as a Judge??

I haven't thought that far ahead yet. She is going to be challenged by the Republicans like crazy.

Her name by the way is ELENA KAGAN,but the problem might be she has never had any actual judicial experience on the bench. She looks like being confirmed anyway because Obama wants her as his favourite and he usually gets his way.

I seen a bit in the newspaper about her. It had her picture next to a picture of Doberman (Maurice Gosfield) from Sgt Bilko. Twins !!!
Re: US Supreme Court Nominee by George on 14 May 2010 11:20pm
As a good Republican, I'm just fine with her nomination. I love these battles and occasionally shed a tear in remembrance of the Clarence Thomas hearings in 1994. We had the spectacle of a "scorned woman", Anita Hill make all sorts of accusations of inappropriate sexual conduct from Thomas which, in the end, made no difference in the final vote. He was confirmed by the Senate strictly along party lines. Since then Thomas has been largely invisible, which is great. Ms. Kagan's reputation or private life are of small consequence. In the end, the US Supreme Court is nothing more than a highly paid debate club.

As a good Democrat, I'm not fine with her. This nomination is another Obama disappointment. (Who would have thought he would be so conservative as to further unbalance the Court?!)

On the other hand, I'm outraged that the question of her sexual orientation (whatever it is) is even being discussed. Score another one for paparazzi journalism.

BTW, I do believe Anita Hill and Thomas, true to his bullying past, is an embarrassment. And the Supreme Court may be a highly paid debate club but it is one that can have dire consequences for us all. By insisting that corporations have the rights of citizens (with NO Constitutional basis to back that up!), we have been ushered into another Gilded Age where the majority of the population is not protected from the machinations of the uber-rich.
