Gunman on the loose in Cumbria by perfectbitch on 2 June 2010 1:13pm

Just saw more on tv news - he's still at large and there are more victims.

I think there will reports of more bizarre behaviour as the recession really begins to bite.

They have now found the gun man's body.

OMG, this is appalling. There are now 12 people dead ( plus him ) and at least 25 people injured.

Just saw this on BBC America. Yes, as things get worse, sadly, you see things like that. I wondered how bad it is in the U.K.

I don't know enough facts on the events ( they are still scant ) but Linz and then Mike seem to be linking things to the economic situation.
I disagree.
Guns and depressed or deranged people don't mix. I think that our country has done as much as is practically possible as far as gun control goes.
I've been in some of the locations where the crimes took place and it's so sad to think that people going about their business or visiting the areas, could be caught up in this.

I know that we have had a few of these incidents here and there seems to be no rhyme nor reason, they've been random and not able to be explained. You can't stop this happening when there are guns in the world.

I watched the report on BBC America last night. I agree with you John, guns and depression are a bad mix. Isn't there a law in the UK about obtaining a license or gun permit and passing a sanity test? I thought I read that somewhere? Could be wrong. I suppose the man could have developed depression because of the recession, anything life changing can trigger it. My heart goes out to the families who lost people yesterday, but also to the gun man's family.

Vast media coverage continues but there are few clues as to why he carried out these acts.
Personally, I think the fact that his twin brother was his first victim ( for whatever reason )just send him into the uncontrolled spiral of madness that unfolded.
The question of whether he could have been stopped sooner remains to be answered.
